Was today a close asteroid flyby?
Checking
KINDA
Kinda — several asteroids pass Earth today, but the nearest is about 9.5 lunar distances away.
Why
- Closest known pass today is 2026 UB1, about 9.5 lunar distances.
- 2018 GS1 passes at roughly 11 lunar distances, around 2.6 million miles.
- Nothing comes inside the Moon's distance, so none is a true near miss.
